I grew up in the Welsh mountains and has been passionate about the outdoors ever since. A geologist by training, I worked in the environmental consulting industry in the UK and South Africa before becoming a full time outdoor guide 1999. Then based in South Africa, I returned to North Wales in 2000 to work at Plas y Brenin (The National Mountain Centre) and subsequently worked for a number of North Wales outdoor education centres. I am currently self employed and, as well as private guiding and coaching, I work for a range of local providers including the National Centres and MOD adventure training.
I am a qualified teacher and hold high level qualifications in both mountaineering (MIC) and paddle sports (BCU Level 4 Inland Kayak, Sea Kayak and Open Canoe). An accredited practitioner of the Institute of Outdoor Learning (APIOL), I am always enthusiastic to learn more about the outdoors and pass this on.
Personal adventures have included running, biking, walking, climbing and paddling all over the UK, aswell as in North and South America, Africa, Europe, India, Nepal and New Zealand. Outside of the playground that is North Wales,. recent trips have included ice climbing in Scotland and Italy, canoeing expeditions to Scotland and Canada, a youth sea kayaking expedition to Norway and climbing in the Alps and Sicily.
